The Marys’ Guidance for a Troubled World

What are we to do when so much happening in our world seems to be moving in the opposite direction from love, wisdom, and care for the Earth?

This was one of the powerful questions that arose during our Experience the Cosmic Marys immersion this past week. As I opened to Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene during our Live Oracle, their answer surprised me.

They did not tell us to work harder to change the people whose actions we oppose. They told us to cultivate our garden.

The teaching first arose around our personal relationships. What do we do when we are trying to live from love, but someone else is angry, hostile, or simply unreceptive?

The Marys reminded us that love doesn’t mean energetically flooding another person with our love—or trying to convince, teach, heal, or awaken them. Sometimes the most loving thing we can do is respect another person’s boundaries, adjust our own energetic presence, or even walk away.

Then they extended this teaching to our relationship with the world.

Many of us are deeply troubled by what we see happening around us ~ to other human beings, to animals, to the Earth herself. It can be tempting to pour enormous amounts of energy into addressing the people, institutions, and forces we believe are causing harm.

But the Marys offered another possibility.

Cultivate the community of those who are receptive.

Plant the tree. Tend your garden. Consume consciously. Gather with people who share your values. Mentor someone who is genuinely seeking. Create beauty. Pray. Heal. Teach. Build community.

Rather than devoting all of our energy to fighting what we don’t want, we can devote more of it to growing what we do want.

And then the teaching became even larger.

The garden they were speaking about was not merely a metaphor for our individual lives.

It was Eden.

What if Eden is not simply a paradise humanity lost somewhere in the distant past? What if Eden is also a state of consciousness that Earth can embody again ~ and that we are participating in its restoration?

The Marys spoke of humanity’s larger project as helping Gaia return to a higher expression of herself: an Eden realm, a New Earth, even what some traditions might call Shambhala or Lemuria.

And they reminded us that our own healing is part of this. When we heal ourselves, we are not only healing ourselves.

When we bring greater love into a relationship, bless a child, tend a piece of land, create a sacred circle, choose compassion over cruelty, or help another person remember who they are, we are participating in something much larger.

We are helping to recreate Eden.

This doesn’t mean ignoring suffering or refusing to take action when action is needed. Nor does it mean pretending that everything happening on Earth is somehow “love and light.”

It means becoming discerning about where our life-force can actually bear fruit.

Maybe that’s one of the invitations before us now: to spend a little less time staring at the garden we fear is dying ~ and a little more time watering the one that is trying to be born.

As the Marys told us during the Oracle: Focus on cultivating your garden of Eden.

May we find one another there.
