And Why Jan 6 Is a Potent Day to Vision Your Year

As we get ready to move through this holy arc between Solstice and the turning of the year, we enter what the ancient world understood as a time of deep magic. Tonight we have the Solstice, when the light will be reborn ~ but will not yet be fully risen. And later this week is Christmas, the eve of which which begins the 12 Holy Nights that culminate on Epiphany on Jan 6.

As of today, we are inside a threshold ~ one of the most mystical periods of the entire Earth calendar.

Maybe you learned about Epiphany as the day the Magi visited the Christ child? Turns out that long before the Christian story, this festival held extraordinary significance across the ancient Mediterranean. In the temple of Kore/Persephone in Alexandria, for example, initiates once kept sacred vigil on the night of January 5 ~ singing, carrying torches, and witnessing the ceremonial “birth” of Aeon, the being who ushered in the new era.

Early Christian tradition merely continued this lineage of revelation, recognizing Epiphany as the moment when the hidden light becomes visible, and when the cosmos offers a clear “revelation” ~ yes, an epiphany ~ about what the new cycle is asking of us.

Epiphany has thus always been portal, a moment when the veils thin, the inner star brightens, and you can more clearly hear what your soul is asking for in the year ahead.
